THIS is what makes a bad parent
Parents Put Baby in Baggage to Sneak Through Customs
Yes, international flight regulations can require all sorts of documentation, but trying to skirt the rules by sticking your baby in a carry-on bag? That's a new travel kind of nightmare. CNN reports an Egyptian couple with a 5-month-old son arrived at Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, but they were not allowed entry into the country because the child didn't have a visa.
Apparently unwilling to wait two days for the visa office to open, the parents put the infant in their luggage, which was discovered when the bag went through an x-ray screening, according to the network. CNN notes that the boy is in good condition, but Abdel Rahman Shama, a police officer, tells the network they were very surprised by the parents' actions. "This is the first time we have seen something like this," he tells the network. "Even if you are in a desperate situation, how can you put your child in a bag?"
Parents Find Snake Wrapped Around Baby's Foot
Things you expect your 1-year-old babe to be cuddled up to in his crib: A teddy bear. A sippy cup. A favourite blankie. Not a snake - and certainly not a 2-foot-long ball python. But that's what Sara Lacey and Devin Winans, parents of Will, 1, discovered wrapped around their son's foot, the Journal-Gazette & Times Courier in Central Illinois repots. Police think the snake slithered in the boy's room from another apartment in the building, according to the newspaper, which adds that Lacey pulled the python off using a blanket and that Will was treated for a bit mark, scratches and a bruise. "It was definitely something we never thought of happening," the mom told the paper. "It was definitely really scary." The snake is being kept at a local animal shelter - far away from any cribs, we hope.
Mom Gives Beer to 2-Year-Old Son
According to a report from azcentral.com, one family's trip to the pizza shop ended in scandal when a Phoenix woman was caught pouring a pitcher of beer into her 2-year-old son's sippy cup. (Yes, really!) To make matters worse, at one point Valerie Marie Topete got up from the table, leaving her toddler alone with the alcohol. When she was first questioned by the police, Topete denied that he drank any of the beer - but police think otherwise. The boy was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures, and Topete, who says she gave her son the beer because he "kept reaching" for the pitcher, was arrested on one count of child abuse.
Toddler Eats Grandmother's Pot Cookies
Sweet treats and Grandmother's house are a partnership made in little kid heaven, but when Granny's baking up pot chocolate chip cookies, things are apt to crumble. The Press-Enterprise in Southern California reports a little boy, 3, found his grandmother's stash of cannabis cookies, baked with THC, marijuana's active chemical, used to treat her cancer pain. The child found the ganja goodies in the fridge in the garage, according to the newspaper, which adds members of the family could face child endangerment charges if toxicology tests came back positive. "It's unfortunate that they didn't take better steps to keep those cookies out of reach of the child," Sgt. Phil Gomez tells the Press-Enterprise, adding that the grandmother "claims she's not going to make them ever again."
Horrible Dad Kicks Son in the Face at Disney World
Visitors to the happiest place on earth witnessed a whole lot of sadness recently, when an Italian doctor allegedly kicked his 3-year-old son, who was in his stroller, in the face at Disney World's Epcot World Showcase, News 13 in Orlando, Fla., reports. Dario Napolitano, 41, of Italy, was fighting with his wife and kids before the attack, according to onlookers, with injuries causing to a cut, bruising and swelling on the boy's left eye, the network notes. Napolitano, who blamed the incident on his older son in the arrest report, was arrested and released on bond, and, News13 adds, his whereabouts are now unknown. Where are The Incredibles when you need them?
Stepdad Caught Beating Boy in Backyard
A game of backyard catch quickly turned violent when a California man was caught whipping his 1-year-old stepson with a belt on camera. A neighbour filmed the beating through his window, then showed the cops and posted it on Youtube, where it soon went viral. Anthony Sanchez, out on bail after being arrested, could be charged with felony child abuse, which could mean a prison sentence of up to six year, according to TODAY. The reason for the belt-whipping appears to stem from the youngster dropping a ball. "As it went on, I realised that what I was looking at was not just a parent disciplining a child," the neighbour, Oscar Lopez, told NBC News.
Mom Straps Petrol Can in Car Seat Instead of Toddler
You know petrol prices are out of control when some people treat a litre of the stuff as more precious than their own child. In one unbelievable example, cops in Colorado conducting a RBT discovered that the female driver had removed her toddlers from his car seat so that she could strap in a can of petrol, according to Yahoo News. No one in the car, including the woman, the toddler and a 14-year-old child, was wearing a seat belt. The best part of the story: The Colorado Department of Transportation posted a photo on its Facebook wall, urging viewers to "please be responsible and make sure children are restrained in the appropriate child safety seat." The unidentified woman was cited for a seat belt violation - and was publicly embarrassed on Facebook.
Mum Drives Off with Baby on Roof of Car
Blame it on the new-mum brain - or marijuana: A 19-year-old Phoenix-area mum was arrested this past weekend after allegedly putting her 5-week-old baby on the roof of a car (he was secured in a car seat, thank goodness) and then driving off, according to CBS 5 Arizona. The mum, Catalina Clouser, admitted to having smoked marijuana and now faces one count of aggravated DUI and one count of child abuse. The baby was found - unharmed - in the street by a neighbour and was take to a hospital. He's now in the custody of Arizona Child Protective Services.
Man Puts Toddler in a Washing Machine
Ever notice how the front-loading washing machines are big enough for a kid to crawl into? Apparently these grown-ups did - and had the not-so bright idea to see if the toddler in their care fitted. In a silly-turned-terrifying incident, a man put a 1-year-old in a machine and shut the door, only to panic when the door locked and the machine started. Luckily, a laundromat attendant was able to stop the machine and free the child. Originally assumed to be the child's dad, the man turned out to be a friend of the child's babysitter, who is (if you can keep this straight) the girlfriend of the child's real father, according to TODAY. The boy's mother now plans to press charges. Watch the disturbing camera footage here.
Dad Drives With Four Kids Strapped to Car
An Indiana couple took a disturbing road trip when they strapped four kids to the hood of their car in a bottle store parking lot and drove away. Three of the children belonged to the woman and one to the man, who reportedly told police that he thought that the kids (ages 4, 5, 6 and 7) "would enjoy it," according to the Associated Press. The parents drove three blocks before they were stopped by police. Both adults were allegedly drunk - and the dad, who had a blood alcohol content that was twice Indiana's limit, was arrested for drunk driving and neglect. There were no injuries - not counting whatever damage occured to the parents' common sense.
