WATCH: Rebel Wilson being amazing on the Jay Leno show
Rebel Wilson is known for her comedy, not her singing voice. But when she's asked to belt out a tune, she gives it all she's got! The Australian comic, who plays an a cappella group star in the new film Pitch Perfect, had to prove she could sing for the audition. On Monday, Wilson re-created that career-changing moment for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. Watch her rendition of Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory" below!
"They were like, well, she kind of looks like Adele, but can she sing?" Wilson said of the Pitch Perfect team. She then gave them a pleasant shock with her powerhouse version of "Edge of Glory," featuring body percussion, furniture jumping and flying footwear. (And yes, that's Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston who nearly got beaned by Rebel's shoe!) The secret to her vocal prowess?
"A lot of people sing from their chest voice and I sing from my breast voice," she explained to Leno. "It's a new thing that I do."
Whatever Rebel is doing, it seems to be working. The comedian, who got America's attention with a small role in Bridesmaids is appearing in no fewer than six films this year (including What to Expect When You're Expecting, Bachelorette and Ice Age: Continental Drift.) She's also developing her own comedy series for ABC. No word on whether she has plans to sing again -- but just in case, look out for flying shoes!
