The Golden Globes' 6 most stunning looks
Nicole Ritchie, Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Alba
This was clearly the look of the night with celeb after celeb walking down the runway with the matching look. This look is a return to that old Hollywood style glamour, very polished and very ladylike. Each of them featured a deep side part with low cascading curls and plenty of shine and soft looking hair.
To create this look you need to start with well moisturised hair to minimise frizz and flyaways. Add a curl enhancing product like Schwarzkopf Professional Curl Me Soft for flexible hold and then blowdry hair straight. Work with Velcro rollers to create these wide barrelled curls, twisting hair up to the ear line and setting in place. Blast with the hair dryer to set and allow time to cool. Before releasing, spritz with a hairspray like Morrocanoil Luminous Hairspray. Release the rollers and using a natural bristle brush, carefully brush through the curls joining them as one to create that voluptuous wave. Pull hair to one side to emphasise the look.
Marion Cotillard, Sofia Vergara and Stacy Keibler
This look is probably the easiest to recreate at home, but you are going to need a good quality straightener! In the salon we use Cloud Nine as it gives a very precise finish. You want to use products which are going to help hold the hair straight and not let it bulk up. After setting in a dead centre part, try Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Flatliner and blowdry straight using a round brush. To finish, section hair into three sections horizontally around the head, working from the bottom section up. Move the straightener quickly but smoothly through the hair from close to the root to the ends. Work all through the hair and then finish by gently brushing. For added shine add a small amount of serum like Morrocanoil Treatment Light.
Anne Hathaway
How can you not love this hair? She looks radiant and is just so gorgeous that she makes pulling off an elfin cut look effortless. Most of this look comes down to a great cut, rather than styling. This is the trickiest haircut to pull off and it is not for those who like to shy away. I love how she has left the fringe forward to flatter the face, rather than pulling it away, and the ends have been softened to frame it. If you want a cut like this, you need to work with your hairdresser to find a cut which will flatter you face and to understand how to grow it out. To style, use a texturizing product like Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Fibre Light.
Zooey Deschanel
This cute retro style is perfect for Zooey’s quirky style. To recreate it, you need quite thick long hair to get the full effect of the ponytail and also a thick fringe. You could work this look minus the fringe, but having it there flatters the face and gives it that fun, flirty feel. This look needs plenty of volume, so use a texturing product like a mousse and work throughout the hair. Blow dry using a wide round brush, flipping the hair onto the opposite side as you work from the top, to help hold in that lift. Before creating the ponytail, work with a wide barrelled curling tong to create bouncy curls throughout the hair, and brush through gently with fingers to loosen. Pull hair up carefully to fairly high on the crown and secure with a hair band which matches the natural hair colour. Ensure the fringe is blowdried both ways to eliminate any kinks or natural inclination to curl one way, then blowdry out towards the ears.
Lucy Liu
There are much fewer braids the Golden Globes red carpet than we have been seeing recently, yet there is still a spot for a great braid for evening, especially this one which merges French and fishtail braiding. As her dress was so elaborate and full, I like that she went with a slightly messy, undone braid.
With braiding you need quite a bit of grip, so this is one look you can do on 1-2 day old hair, rather than clean hair. This look was created by creating a slightly off centre part and then French braiding down both sides. When you reach the bottom of the head, pull slightly over to one side, merge the hair and start working a fishtail braid to the end. Keep it quite loose for that messy effect and when tied off, work the braid with the fingers to flatten it and tease it out slighty. Finish with a spritz of control spray to help control any flyaways like Moroccanoil Frizz Control.
Thandie Newton
This is one of the simpler looks, but it is a classic blowdry and it looks just effortless and amazing on her. There are two key things here- volume and shine and you need both to make this look stand out. A few tips when blowdrying-
· If you can, get someone to help. It is very tricky to do and sometimes we even have someone help us when doing them in the salon, so if you can plan it with a couple of girlfriends when you get ready- do!
· The most important thing when blowdrying is to remove all the moisture from the hair, so you need to dry every section until completely dry. Any moisture will cause the blowdry to lose shape.
· Use a vented brush to help distribute heat quickly and evenly. Also, use the nozzle that comes with most hairdryers- these aim heat directly at the hair to help cut down drying time and stylist will always use them.
