Pink dares you to comment about her breastfeeding in public
I think I have a mum crush on Pink. This rocker-mama who continues to breastfeed her 15-month-old daughter Willow (on my girl name list back in the day, by the by) is ready to throw down if anyone tries to give her the stink-eye over breastfeeding in public.
Recently, while on the British TV show "Alan Carr: Chatty Man," Pink recalled the first time she breastfed her baby in public, according to Today Moms. She was at a restaurant with her husband, Carey Hart. Her boobs were out, but shielded under a 'Hooter Hider'. "And this guy walks by, and he was like, 'Ughhh.' He was just disgusted," she recalled. "I was like, 'You didn't get enough hugs when you were little.'"
Her husband was worried she'd start throwing fists right there. "I will," she said. "I will fight. Hold my baby," Pink said, laughing. She went on to add "breastfeeding is healthy and natural and it's a comfort to my baby."
I, like many, many women breastfed my kids and have gotten that very same uncomfortable once-over by a stranger. You know, when people widen their eyes, swallow hard and get up and walk away while you feed your baby. Luckily, I was never confronted or booted from a cafe with one breast in my baby's mouth.
But if I were, I'm pretty sure I'd wanna start a fight. (Na na na na na, I wanna start a fight!). Am I "one of those militant breastfeeder women," as Carr put it to Pink? I guess so. I believe mums should be able to feed their children when needed, wherever, without anyone making them feel weird about it. Is Pink "one of those"? Yup. She said that she almost dares people to say something about it.
Why does this make me so happy? Because Pink is cool. She's a rock star. She's badass. And she's not a stereotype. Gotta love it.
