The best beauty tip ever - what's yours?

I got my first ever gel manicure almost two weeks ago and, oh boy, WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS BEFORE?
(If you’re new to this like I was, here is a tip: for a gel manicure, you’re given about four or five coats of polish, each of which is quickly ‘cooked’ in 30 seconds of UV light. Wear fingerless gloves or a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin. When you’re done, your nails are 100 percent touch dry.)
Right now I’m 10 days into my manicure, with not a chip in sight. Not. One. Chip.
You need to understand, my previous record was 24 hours. That was the longest I’d ever made it without chipping, denting, smearing or peeling my manicure.
And then I became a mum. Nowadays my hands seem to spend about eight hours a day soaking in bathwater, washing water, dish water or just being washed. These babies are the ultimate anti-manicure.
Yet as I type I’m looking down at my shiny, unchipped, hot pink nails, fresh and perfect after 10 days of relentless mum duty. People of iVillage, I am converted!
So this has got me thinking: what other mother-proof beauty tips are out there that I’ve never heard of? Mothers, spill your secrets! (Please?)
