Make-up tips for Asian skin
Build up a good foundation
When choosing a foundation, look for one with yellow undertones and apply only a light coverage to begin with. 'As Asian skins have multiple colours, it’s best to use a tinted moisturiser such as Laura Mercier, £33 to even up skin tone - and then apply stronger coverage using a stick foundation or concealer only where you need it,' says Lan. 'That way you can achieve a flawless finish while keeping the look natural.'
Mix and colour match
If you have problems finding the perfect colour foundation, Lan suggests mixing two different shades together. Find a shade that matches the warmest point of the face and one that matches the lightest.
'Skin changes colour throughout the year, so using two shades like this allows you to mix different amounts of product to achieve a colour that’s always tailor-made for you.'
One of her favourites is Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation, £29.
Primed for perfection
Asian skins can be prone to excess oiliness. If this is a problem for you, Lan suggests using a matt-based primer. 'Applying a mattifying primer before you apply a base will help prevent shine on the skin and create an even surface ready for foundation,' she says.
Lan recommends MAC’s Prep + Prime Skin, £18.50 for 30ml and Benefit Professional, £23.50, for 22ml.
Dream concealers
Like foundations, Asian skins are best suited to concealers that have a yellow tone to them. To achieve a radiant-looking glow, Lan suggests mixing a little illuminator, such as YSL Touch Eclat, £39.50, to concealer for a bright finish, especially under the eye.
One of her favourite concealers is from Becca, £30, available in 34 shades with medium and fuller coverage in one.
Brighten up your blush

When it comes to blush, don’t be afraid to go for colour. 'Vibrant cream blush in pink or coral orange will give a true flush to Asian skins,' says Lan, who recommends MAC’s cream colour base, £14.50, in Fabulush.
'For a natural look, apply the blush to the apple of the cheek, blend slightly and then apply a bronzer or warmer tone just on the bone to the hair line.'
Eyes wide open
To give the impression of bigger eyes avoid using dark shades and opt for brighter colours that are blended towards the exterior of your eye to make them appear more ‘open’. 'Eye shadows with shimmering and satin finishes in bronze, mauves or plum are best,' says Lan, who recommends Bourjois Eye Pearls Quintet Eye Shadow in Ilusion, £8.99.
'These colours help keep Asian skins looking fresh and warm. For night-time, vibrant greens and blues create a wonderfully dramatic look.'
Lashings of mascaraMake the most of those sexy eyes and accentuate long dark lashes with lots of mascara. 'The best mascaras are highly pigmented to coat and lengthen each lash,' says Lan, who recommends Bodyshop’s Super Volume Mascara, £10.00.
'With false eyelashes, go for ones that are longer at the edges rather than those that are all one length. This creates even more of a feline look,' adds Lan.
Kiss me quick lips
Good lip colours for Asian skins are nudes and vibrant oranges and reds. 'Warm nudes work well as do truer colours, such as orange and vibrant reds,' says Lan. 'Just steer clear of cold or plum colours as these can make the skin look grey and tired.' Lan recommends Lancome Le Rouge Absolue, £19.50.
For a dramatic night-time look, add some gloss. 'Sparkly lip gloss is very on-trend and can work wonders with Asian skins,' she adds.
Powder problems away

A fine-pressed powder is the perfect way to touch up shine during the day. Just be sure to apply to problem areas, rather than applying all over the face. 'To keep the look natural, dust it lightly on areas of shine or uneven skin tone such as the forehead and cheeks,' says Lan, who recommends Becca’s fine pressed powder in Clove, £35.
Love the skin you’re in
As mentioned, Asian skins can be prone to oiliness but can also suffer from dryness at times. To prevent excess oil, Lan suggests using a toner every day. 'It’s a good idea to apply a serum to skin at night - but during the day an oil-free moisturiser is best,' she Lan, who recommends Lancome’s Pure Focus Fluide, £31.50 for 50ml. 'Using a hydrating face mask once a week will also help keep skin in great condition.'
