Make sure your teenager reads this
Lawstuff Australia, in partnership with the Children's Legal Services of Legal Aid NSW, have developed a series of fact sheets to provide children with information on what types of activities are against the law when using social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Information on sexting, copyright infringement, defamation and privacy are included. A great resource for your teens, and hopefully for them to share around on Facebook.
Most teenagers don't enjoy listening to their parents tell them about their responsibilities and rights online - but they will read information shared online by their friends. So, if you can share some of these links with your teens on Facebook or other social media, you will be doing many teenagers a good deed.
Examples are provided of scenarios that will be familiar to teenagers such as file sharing, creating fake profiles on social media (identity theft) and using the internet to harrass or bully others: cyberbullying. I highly recommend this fantastic resource to all parents.
