Get inspired by these amazing rooms for your baby
Grey is the new neutral
We love how these parents paired grey with orange-y-red curtains for a gorgeous, not too baby-ish room. That was the point after all, since they wanted to create a functional baby room that was also comfy for the adults that would be spending so much time in there.
DIY Tip: Hang family photos among the branches of this vinyl family tree wall decal ($88 at Etsy). Add a ton of colour on the cheap with cheap curtains from Ikea.

The Nursery Nook
The nook nursery -- fitting baby’s crib into a closet -- is a big trend for 2012. These parents made use of every inch of their small space by creating a compact baby corner -- the crib goes in the closet and is flanked by a changing pad topped dresser.
DIY Tip: We love how baby’s crib nook has been turned into a dramatic “event” with the beautiful, valance and curtains framing the bed. So sweet and easy to re-create!

Geometric Cool
We are gaga for the beautiful paper lantern/mobile sculpture hanging over baby’s changing table in this nursery. What an amazing, stimulating piece for baby to look up at!
DIY Tip: Buy a few packs of inexpensive paper lanterns ($7.95 for a set of 8 at Amazon) that match your room palette and group together different shapes and sizes. Hang from a ceiling hook with fishing line.

A-B-C's, Easy as 1-2-3
Murals get a bad rap as dated décor, but this one manages to break the mold beautifully -- it’s neutral, modern and perfectly baby-appropriate. Plus, you don’t need any real artistic ability to DIY!

Sailing Away
This mum wanted to use clouds in her baby boy's room, but didn't want the feel to be too childish. By making her own cloud window treatments she could control the fluff, and made the theme fit her modern taste. The sailboat mobile and framed family photos add fun personality and whimsical detail.
DIY Tip: Blinds don’t need to be store-bought white! They’re a great way to bring in a little bit of pattern. Here’s how to cover those boring blinds with adorable fabric.

Dark and Dreamy
This couple proves that nurseries don't need to be all soft pinks or pastel blues to be beautiful for baby. With black (yes, black!) walls and rainbow coloured accents, this nursery feels warm and cocoon-y.
DIY Tip: The way to make it work is to keep the floors light and break up the black with pops of bright colour, and lots of white in the artwork.

Gender Neutral
We love how a pale turquoise and bright yellow palete are perfectly modern without being stark! It's not the first time you've seen these colours together, but somehow the tones used especially the saturated yellow, make it feel completely fresh.
DIY Tip: Hack some inexpensive Ikea furniture with wallpaper -- these parents covered the front of some of the dresser drawers with grass cloth wallpaper. Looks completely custom.

Splurge on One Thing
We love the zebra rug, what we really love is this huge room-for-two rocker. This one isnt cheap, but it's a splurge in the right place -- baby will be in that crib for 2 years -- max -- that rocker will be used for many, many years of storytimes to come.
DIY Tip: Check out Gumtree and your local online mother's group, people are always selling high-quality, barely-used rockers. Get it professionally cleaned or throw on a slip cover -- good as new!

Get Inspired
This mum was inspired to theme her son's nursery around the elephant image above the change table. We love the idea of finding one thing that speaks to you and building the rest of the decor around it. Tree wall decals and a neutral palette take us into an elephant's world without making the room feel too theme-y.
DIY Tip: That great elephant print? Wrapping paper framed.
