Celebrities react to tragic shooting

In times of tragedy, communities rally together to find meaning in the wake of the unfathomable. So it was this morning, when a gunman opened fire at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colo., killing at least 12 and critically wounding many others. In the hour since, celebrities, fans and onlookers have rallied together on Twitter to share their thoughts and prayers with the victims of this horrific event.

"What the hell is happening??" Avengers star Chris Evans tweeted. "My heart is completely shattered. all of my thoughts and prayers are with the people of aurora."

Eva Longoria also shared her thoughts on the tragedy on Twitter, saying, "My heart goes out to all the people affected in the Aurora, CO shooting. May God be with that town and their families..."

Alyssa Milano could not seem to cope with the incident, simply tweeting, "No. Colorado shooting. My heart aches. Prayers for the victims and families."

Lebron James was also made sick by the event, saying, "Its just not fair that innocent people have to lose their lives over someone's selfish stupidity acts! My stomach is hurting over this."

Even those used to having to discuss tragic events like these seemed taken aback by news of the shooting.

"Thinking about the families who were affected by this horrible incident in Colorado. My thoughts and prayers are with you all," Ryan Seacrest tweeted.

Katie Couric added, "This shooting in Colorado is beyond horrific. Such upsetting news."

Others took to Twitter to share their well-wishes for the community affected by the shooting.

"Deeply, deeply sad. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Aurora," Damon Lindelof said.

"My sincerest condolences to the victims and families in Colorado. So sad, so mindless," Olivia Munn tweeted.

Kevin Smith tweeted, "My heart goes out to all the families of the victims in the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting. F***ing horrific."

President Barack Obama, meanwhile, released a statement with wife Michelle, saying, "As we do when confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must now come together as one American family."  Yesterday he spent time in Colorado with survivovors and familes of the deceased.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this senseless murder.
